Fayetteville Public Schools is hosting a Community Night of Coding event to celebrate Computer Science Education Week on Wednesday, December 6 from 5:30-7:00 pm in the FHS Cafeteria. There will be hands-on computer science-related activities for pre-K through 12th-grade students and their families. Robots, minicomputers, games, crafts and more! Come play, make, and code with us!

This week we're joining the nationwide effort to raise awareness about the importance of school bus safety and reminding everyone to be cautious on the roads. All students at Vandergriff Elementary School participated in a “Diverse Abilities Day” TODAY! Teachers and staff hope to bring compassion and acceptance through hands-on experiences to understand what life is like for students with physical impairments and learning disabilities. Two of our graduates, South Walker and Frankie Quinn (QuinnComix), joined in by talking with students about Autism. We caught our superintendent Dr. Mulford participating as well!

The newly renovated basketball court at Walker Park will be unveiled on Saturday, August 5 on Saturday, August 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. AND1 BASKETBALL will host a celebration including a giveaway of 1,000 pairs of shoes for K-6 students and 1,000 basketballs on a first come, first serve basis. AND1 will also host a basketball skills clinic at 10:30 a.m. for students in grades 4-6 featuring the AND1 OG basketball all stars. The first ten boys and ten girls to sign up will get to participate in the skills clinic, so be sure to arrive at 10 a.m.!

Chef Getzin is here working with the Child Nutrition Department, thanks to a generous grant funded and supported by the Lifetime Foundation. FPS Child Nutrition staff enjoyed hands-on professional development with chef Kent Getzin. Chef Getzin joins us from Chelan, Washington, thanks to a generous grant funded and supported by the Lifetime Foundation. The Child Nutrition staff was instructed to create original recipes after learning about the fundamentals of taste physiology and flavor development. Food was then prepared by staff using the new recipes, and staff members all sampled the food in a taste test. Recipes approved by the staff will be used throughout the district in our lunch program!
Friday, September 23 will be an Online Learning Day for our staff members. Students will not attend school on Friday.

Staff Spotlight! Meet Ms. Contessa Shew, Art Teacher extraordinaire at Vandergriff Elementary. Today Ms. Shew is working with third-grade students on a split cell portrait project learning drawing skills and portraiture. In order to align the facial dimensions, students use rulers and math concepts as well as graphite pencils to complete the portrait.
