First Graders release Monarch Butterflies

Last week first grade classes had fun releasing the Monarchs that they have been observing in their classrooms. Once the Monarchs hatch it is time for them to migrate to Mexico where they overwinter. They released them near Vandergriff's Monarch Waystation. A Monarch Waystation is a habitat that provides resources for Monarchs. The resources include host plants for a Monarch's life cycle and nectar plants for Monarchs. This nectar sustains them so that they can complete their migration. The Vandergriff Butterfly Garden also provides habitat for other Butterflies as well. To learn more about Monarchs go to http://www.monarchwatch.org/waystations/
